De la fragmentaci�n a la reconciliaci�n

La escritora Pilar V�lez nos presenta en El expreso del sol unas memorias noveladas de gran impacto. Con un lenguaje claro y po�tico toma la mano del lector y no lo suelta hasta el final. Caminamos la larga y dolorosa trayectoria del personaje de Corintia. Vemos la injusticia, la violencia, la destrucci�n de la familia y del pa�s desde el punto de vista impotente de una ni�a y la perspectiva de una adulta que eval�a y se reconcilia con el pasado. Con una prosa cautivante V�lez le proporciona al lector entrada a la vida y las circunstancias de los desplazados en Colombia. Le permite as� al lector experimentar la atm�sfera de horror e incertidumbre que de una manera u otra han conocido los Latinoamericanos y Caribe�os. En su propuesta, V�lez logra una reconciliaci�n con el pasado necesaria para forjar la persona que se propone ser. De los fragmentos de su vida construye un presente completo desde el que asimila los golpes del pasado y los utiliza para crear un futuro m�s humano y armonioso. La lectura de El expreso del sol provoca a la reflexi�n individual y, adem�s, a un mejor entendimiento de los procesos sociales del presente.

Es un libro verdaderamente impactante que nos lleva de punto ...

Es un libro verdaderamente impactante que nos lleva de punto a punto de un pasado lleno de violencia, memorias de conflicto, de dolor, y aun de humor y dulzura. Saliendo de un pa�s de historia sangrienta, vemos como la protagonista Corintia nos conduce en el tren de su vida, y logra superar su pasado y utilizar las enormes dificultades de su trayecto para crear una nueva abundante vida intelectual en el exterior. Al haber crecido tambi�n en Colombia, encuentro que este libro da expresi�n a muchos pensamientos suprimidos y memorias que compartimos todos quienes salimos de una ni�ez de violencia, guerra y desplazo. Es un estupendo libro que nos hace reflexionar sobre nuestras vidas y las vidas de todos los desplazados quienes vemos a diario en las noticias mundiales.

Sin palabras y perdida en un torbellino de emociones me he quedado con la ultima pagina de este maravilloso libro, que me mantuvo intrigada desde la primer a la ultima hoja. Y reh�n de mi lectura desde Requiem hasta Estaci�n del Sol
Pocos libros llegan tan hondo y muchos menos llegan a dejarnos en un silencio de largos pensamientos despu�s de terminados. Tal vez por que conozco personalmente a la escritora, tal vez porque conocerle la cara a la pobreza deja marcas que no se borran y uno aprende a contar solo con uno mismo porque no hay nada mas.
Habra muchos comentarios literarios acerca de este libro, que exaltaran la prosa, el aspecto literario, el lenguaje pero lejos de ser una experta del tema no podr�a mas que recomendar una y otra vez la lectura de esta maravillosa obra.
Para aquellos que nunca tuvieron la desdicha de ser pobres El expreso del sol es una ilustraci�n justa y real de su violencia
Para aquellos que han nacido sumidos en ella, para que sepan que s� es posible desafiar las probabilidades y retar al destino. Tal vez este libro sea un grito de coraje para los que se animen.
Para aquellos que juzgan y generalizan, les servir� para entender que detr�s de cada persona hay una historia que a veces hasta es dif�cil de imaginar.
Y las clases pol�ticas tal ves con estos relatos entiendan que dentro de la pobreza no hay derecha, ni izquierda, ni liberales, ni conservadores sino hambre y violencia.

Purchase for my husband.

He loves it. We both bought copies on the same day both from different retailers, this company was great for offering me a refund since I requested this order be cancelled (since we ordered two) and they had difficulty receiving emails and shipped the item to me before receiving the cancellation request. About the Author
John Galsworthy was a Nobel-Prize (1932) winning English dramatist, novelist, and poet born to an upper-middle class family in Surrey, England. He attended Harrow and trained as a barrister at New College, Oxford. Although called to the bar in 1890, rather than practise law, Galsworthy travelled extensively and began to write.

It was as a playwright Galsworthy had his first success. His playslike his most famous work, the series of novels comprising The Forsyte Sagadealt primarily with class and the social issues of the day, and he was especially harsh on the class from which he himself came.

This is a British book written in 1909 that has nothing to do with American fraternity life. Please don't be misled.

Unique, Clear and Commendable Commentary

This unique Commentary is the most exhaustive exposition of the Holy Quran in English that I have used. I have never seen a more comprehensive English commentary and was impressed with its discourse and elaboration of the many principles that are enunciated in the Quran. It presents a lucid understanding of the commandments laid down in the Quran. I am amazed at the depth of knowledge of the Holy scripture as presented by the Editor who has truly done a great service to Islam by his clarity of thought and expression. I take pleasure in recommending this Commentary to anyone who is seeking to advance his understanding of the Quran. There is no doubt that the reader will benefit greatly from this amazing work."

Amazing Commentary

This translation and commentary of the Holy Quran is probably the best
that I have seen. The editor provides a wonderful commentary that
enriches the reader's experience far more than any simple translation
could do. Even the most difficult verses are explained with such
clarity and everytime I consult it I leave with a much deeper
understanding of the work.
The editor's understanding of the Quran is phenomenal and this work is
a wonderful testament to his vast knowledge. I feel that this
translation and commentary are truely a 'must have' for any home
library.

Do Not Purchase this Quran

I recently got this Quran from Amazon because I wanted another Quran with commentary to compliment my Yusuf Ali copy. The cover of the book looks great with the red color, but the content threw me a curve-ball. The first thing I noticed was that the first verse of every chapter is the saying of "In the Name of Allah" and it is numbered one. This is not considered an actual verse in any of the translations ever made. It is the opening of every chapter in the Quran except for chapter 9 but it is never numbered as one. This changes the order of the verses that every Muslim is accustomed to using and it causes confusion when a person is told to look up a certain verse and it ends up being something else.

I was expecting new commentary from a new commentator and there were a few things said that enlightened me, but I found some things that the author said which I thought were out of line. One of things that the author said which troubled me was on page 23. He talks about the time when Allah told the angels he will create human beings. The author says that "the conversation between God and the angels need not be taken in a literal sense as actually to have taken place." In other words, Allah never spoke to his angels. There is no Hadith or any work by any of the famous Muslim scholars that agrees with this belief. This is like saying that Allah is incapable of having a normal conversation with the angels that he created which is ridiculous. We know that Allah has spoken to Moses when he went up to the mountain where the light was so why does the author try and push his theory?

I eventually read that the author Gulam Ahmad is the founder of the Ahmadiyya sect which is mentioned in the beginning of the book. He considered himself the messiah or mahdi and he also said the second coming of Jesus mentioned in the Quran is also "metaphorical in nature and not literal." So the author appointed himself as the messiah and gave himself the ability to interpret when Allah is speaking literally and metaphorically.
This is not the kind of person you want interpreting verses from the Quran for you.

I suggest everyone get the Abdullah Yusuf Ali translation with explanations of verses. In the Shades of the Quran by Sayyid Qutb is also a great explanation book although it is a volume of 30 books so I would suggest you search your local library for any of them.
