A Very Active and Creative Imagination.....

Lucky and blessed are those few souls that have a Muse/Star (be it: Thalia or Calliope), to nurture the inward desire (for the knowledge of "Self"), and to then be able to communicate this inspiration/feeling back to us through the Arts. And rest assured, Steve Kilbey is one such soul, whether he knows it or not (and I think he does). Steve Kilbey of course, is best known as the voice and prime mover of possibly, one of the greatest bands to have ever graced planet Earth, I mean none other than: The Church ("the body is the temple of the soul"/if you prefer Joyce: "the body is the tomb of the soul."). But his talents go much deeper than just making fantastic and phenomenal music. He is gifted with poetic vision, to be precise! "Uncollected" brings together Steve Kilbey's previously published and new writings into one unified and concise collection (1986 - 2013). I'll give a brief summary, of what these writings expressed for me.

Earthed:

Neumann: (you, I, me) the no-man, the every-man (humankind).

Carthage: the chaos of peoples (the New York, London, etc., of yesterday/today/tomorrow).

Weaving mythology, mysticism, and history: to tell a story/version of humankind and this world (including the world of Elementals); in a non-linear narrative and dreamlike manner. One might say our very dreams tap into this reality all the time.

Nineveh:

Ancient capital of Assyria (the seat of Ishtar), founded some 6,000 years B.C. Center of the ancient world, where wealth was accumulated from East and West. Then, quite sudden like, all her former vassals set upon her, and Nineveh was no more! All great empires eventually get consumed by their own evil karma (U.S. & Co., beware the "Ides of March").

The Ephemeron:

Another tale/journey of mystery and imagination; with 'Erskine the magician' as your guide into a world of dream/reality: weaving in and out of yesterday, today, tomorrow, the ever-present now.

Uncollected:

Experiences and daily observations, the daily struggle of life, the search for an answer to it all! And yes, his very personal struggle with his own demons. We can also see the spiritual insight, of the person that wrote this line: "Let her eyes burn like a blue sun". Another example was between pages 354 - 5, where anyone versed in esoteric material, can clearly see the reference in this passage to the power that Lucifer has over us. I'm specifically talking about Lucifer's influence on our "Ego" at the moment of every earthly birth.

The Fruit Machine:

This is an essay on the virtues of the electric guitar and rock 'n' roll in general. Very incisive. Notable mentions: Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Jimi Page, Alvin Lee, Carlos Santana, Tom Verlaine, John Lennon, Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan, Marc Bolan, Lou Reed, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, The Stooges, The New York Dolls, etc., etc.

All in all, these writings display a very active and creative imagination. That has flashes of wisdom, minor miracles, and inner knowledge of the spirit too. There were parts that were very witty and very funny also ("Uncollected"), from an obvious personal perspective and point of view. But, they have a commonality about them that embraces the universal in every person's experience too. That's the beauty of it all!

Observation and side note:

In today's world, filled with the incessant clamor of the worship of 'celebrities' (that have no talent whatsoever, except for self-aggrandizement), consumerism, social-media/state-propaganda, and everyone just basically 'goose-stepping' in unison, to the beat of mediocrity and the embezzlement of Nature's gifts. Thank God, that there are still artists out there like Steve Kilbey, who share their love and understanding of aesthetics and higher principles, with the rest of us like-minded souls, who can also see through all the BS!

Not as good as his other books

I did not enjoy this book as much as I did Paul's other ones. He wrote this book after a horrible accident he had. He tells his story and how he got back up after that terrible fall. It is definitely an inspiring story, but it did not do as much to me as his others (You can do it; and Believe & Achieve)

Wendy Berg does an excellent job giving a good case to show how good Faery and Human Relations were fostered in the past and in the present. By using the Arthurian Legends of the past, she weaves a beautiful tapestry of our relationship with the Fey. She also ties in much symbolism with Arthur, Galahad, and even Guinevere as a possible Faery. I give this book Five Stars!

One of the Better books on Auras and how to understand them.

The book goes through all the basics . It talks about the interpretation of auras and how to use it in everyday life. Shows you how to see auras without the camera. Explains the type of equipment and research used to photograph Auras. Talks about what different cultures have used auras for thousands of years in their traditional medicine.(includes various topics such as charkras and crystals, which have their own chapters.) Lots of relevent atribution and research material so you can go deeper into the topic. Doesn't shove any product or concept down your throat. :)

Very Shallow Book, Don't Waste Your Time

I purchased this book because I was serious in trying to find practical, real information on auras. I was sorely disappointed. This book is nothing more than a wacky cartoonish version of secular humanism wrapped in a naive, hippy type of world-view that talks about the colors they supposedly see around the human form. I believe in auras as vibration, light and energy that are emitted from the human body, soul and spirit as it interacts with the world around it, both spiritual and material. I believe that our auras are set within the (world's) context of good and evil, both from within and without. I was hoping to find more realistic, sophisticated, real-world information that would advance my understanding of this phenomenon. There is none of that found in this book. Instead I found laughable, shallow, second grader talk!

The authors use the pronoun "you" so many times one becomes dizzy. It is also clear that the authors don't believe in objective truth, that it is all inside of "you" (yawn), by using such expressions as "everything originates from within" (page xv). Everything? EVERYTHING originates within me? So, now I'm God. Really? This humanistic Shirley Maclainish idea that we are the center of the universe is pathetic and thin. They encourage the reader to "find your own truth," which is just another expression of the boring contemporary humanistic penchant for relativism. I'm sorry, but all opinions and world-views are not equal, some are plain silly, wrong and/or stupid. They also say such things as "we are made of light" (try walking through a wall), and speak about "love colors" as if we are all just happy go lucky people full of love and smiles. They even have a section in the book that supposedly reveals the code for how to read the aura colors. I note with interest that none of them are negative. News flash: there is evil that exists in the world, just pick up your newspaper or turn on the news. Nothing in this book addresses evil or talks about the auras one gives off if he or she is thinking of evil or committing it, or shows attachment or oppression by evil spirits. One gets the clear impression that these naive authors believe we are all just frolicking through a field of daises reading each others' auras as if we were animated life-sized mood rings in human form.

If you are searching for useful information on auras that one can truly appreciate as serious, well thought out, and deeply researched, then keep looking. This book is definitely not in that category, so don't waste your money. I would recommend Michelle Belanger's book "The Psychic Energy Codex," Chapter Eight, entitled The Human Aura. This particular book belongs in the "hippy, flower-child let's just ignore reality and all just love one another and read each other's happy colors" section; or in the children's book section. I would rather read Dr. Seuss - at least the cartoons are better and you get a great moral lesson!
