About the Author
Lynn Rossy, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist at the University of Missouri’s wellness program for faculty and staff. She developed Eat for Life, a mindfulness-based intuitive eating program that successfully helps people overcome eating issues, improve body image, and enhance weight loss. She is on the board of directors of The Center for Mindful Eating.

Ideal alternative to diet books

This book is exactly what I needed after having my first baby. With the dramatic changes to my body and my hectic schedule, I have developed some negative habits with food (e.g., not eating during the day and then over-eating at night when I finally have time). As a chronic dieter in the past, I did not want to go down the typical diet route. This book did the trick, as it provided me with hands-on, non-diet-focused tools to get a handle on my eating again. From the first chapters, I was given concrete tools to pay attention to what I am eating, to slow down, and focus on my body's cues for what and when to eat. I particularly enjoyed the brief meditation guides and the "what you can do now" points at the end of each chapter. Moreover, Lynn Rossy has a very compassionate voice and I liked that she seemed to understand how challenging it can be to be kind to ourselves when it comes to eating and body issues. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is struggling with their bodies/eating and who want a down-to-earth, holistic, and compassionate alternative to harsh diets programs.

What a wonderful way to learn about mindful eating. Lynn Rossy offers an engaging way to explore the non-dieting, mindful eating concept in a clear, logical and evidence-based way that is sure to remove any doubt you may have about changing your eating. Written with honesty, common sense, and humor, Lynn provides an essential plan that covers the BASICS! And when I say basics, I mean: Breathe, Assess your food, Slow down Investigate your hunger, Chew, & Savor!
Each chapter offers a terrific 2-page summary of the challenge you face, the "good news" and what you can do now!
After reading Lynn's book, I walked over to my family and said, "Read this! It explains mindful eating in a way I think you can finally understand!" It was a privilege to read her work. Lynn is such a fun, wise and authentic person, her brilliance is clearly evident throughout this book!

Just Read It!

Whether your goal is weight loss or to thoroughly enjoy the food you eat, this book is a must read. The author writes in a clear and gentle voice that guides the reader through a simple and effective approach to eating. She supports her approach with plenty of research and her years of experience and training in the field of mindfulness based strategies for health and well-being. I read the book in a day and have found myself eating less and enjoying it more. Don't pass up this delicious gem of a book that shines above others in its class.
