I bought this book a few months ago and have just recently gotten around to actually reading it. My only regret is that it took me so long to get to it. This book had everything, romance, drama, suspense, family secrets, even some comedy....it had the works. As I finish writing this review, I'm going to immediately look for and buy every other book in this series. Thank you Roxie for giving me hours of enjoyment.

I have read all of her Russian Protectors series but to have this boxed set plus the extra reads on my kindle well that is just bonus.
Action, suspense, drama, laughter, hot sexy times. This series hits all those points and more.

The Kirkwood Highway is an almost six-mile portion of State Route 2 in New Castle County, Delaware. This brings back lots of memories.

This book brings back a lot of memories of growing up right near the Kirkwood Highway. I wish there were a few more photos of the section I lived closest to, but it gives a pretty good overview of the entire length of the road. I wish the highway was as open now as it was back in the '60's!

I love this book! I spent time analyzing each and every image. Even though most of the photographs are from before my time I found it utterly fascinating to see the way things used to look. I never realized how much of my life has been spent along this highway.

My wife needed this book for her grad school class even though a newer edition was available at the time. However, this book was sufficient enough and worth getting at the discount price on Amazon rather than the campus bookstore.

Eye-Opening

Anyone who's caught up with current affairs since 9/11 has an opinion is used to the disturbing and frustrating stories that often come out of Guantanamo Bay: harsh interrogation tactics, inhumane prisoner abuse and the ineffectiveness of the actual trials. Even 9/11 mastermind, Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, has yet to pay for his heinous crimes. Newspapers have even just recently published the news of wide-spread hunger strikes by prisoners who are then often violently force fed.

But reading about Guantanamo from it's very creation after the 9/11 terrorist attacks up to the present day, has a way of putting into perspective the enormous stain it is on the American justice system. This incredibly well-researched book explores the way the Bush administration essentially ignored all legality to hold their military commissions, the fighting within the Departments of Justice and Defense that delayed trials for years and the deplorable conditions prisoners were held just to gather information that couldn't even be used in court.

This is absolutely a must-read for any law student, particularly those interested in civil rights or constitutional law.

Excellent and up-to-date. As disturbing as it should be.

This book gives me huge appreciation for the people of integrity that are not letting the machine roll over them, but standing up for the principles of fair play, taking personal risks by refusing to go along with the political machine. Fascinating looks at the tortured logic that tries to pass off torture as merely "enhanced interrogation." Appalling that the advocates of "rough justice" just wouldn't let themselves see the ultimately self-defeating consequences. Well worth the read if only for the thought it provokes...

The Terror Courts is compelling, meticulously researched and well-written. It reads like a thriller but knowing that it is non-fiction makes it more powerful than any novel could be. Definitely worth reading.

logical presentation of nanothermodynamics fundamentals

Some scientists, including the author, are beginning to use the phrase 'nanothermodynamics' to describe the behavior of small chemical systems at or near equilibrium. 'Thermodynamics of Small Systems' provides many concepts which can be used to describe these behaviors in practical terms for biological systems, between nearest-neighbor molecules or molecular clusters at surfaces and interfaces, in vapor-liquid-solid interfacial reaction and diffusion, in adsorbent-adsorbate interactions, or in membrane science and heterogeneous catalysis at short length scales. Concepts are clear and easy to apply if one has a strong background in chemical thermodyanmics and physical chemistry. A basic understanding of quantum chemistry is also useful.
When I read this book a few years ago, I merely sought to round out my knowledge of molecular level chemical systems by covering an area of thermodynamics I wasn't familiar with, but had no expectation of ever using those concepts. In fact, I've found that Dr. Hill's book has become a fundamental reference for my own work.

However its methodology has found room for application at microscopic molecular level something that, has adquire notoriety in recent years. The author presents a wider scope of basic thermodynamics which goes beyond its original intentions thus opening the door to new possibilities. About the Author
As well as his poems on classical themes, the German poet Friedrich Holderlin (1770-1843) is author of the novel HYPERION. Michael Hamburger was born in Berlin in 1924. His family emigrated to England in 1933. His own collections of poetry include FLOWERING CACTUS, WEATHER AND SEASON and OWNERLESS EARTH: NEW AND SELECTED POEMS, and his many distinguished translations include versions of Hofmannsthal and Grass, as well as the POEMS AND FRAGMENTS, on which he worked for many years.

excellent translations

As a german reader I must say that the author had made excellent translations. You have the feeling that he translated with heart - very rich in his speech and sometimes surprising. Some verses of Hoelderlin, which are strange and not easy to understand are in his translations clearer and simpler to understand. " But it is the sea / That takes and gives remembrance, / And love no less keeps eyes attentively fixed, / But what is lasting the poets provide" (Remembrance).

Fair collection

I don't have much to say about Holderlin's poetry, which I find a bit stodgy and ungraceful, but I have to say I cannot read it in German, which I believe is a necessary prerequisite to any true read of poetry. I would merely like to share a poem that I found beautiful:

Sunset

Where are you? Dazzled, drunken my soul grows faint

And dark with so much gladness; for even now

I listened while, too rich in golden

Sounds, the enrapturing youth, the sun-god

Intoned his evening hymn on a heavenly lyre;

All round the hills and forests re-echoed it,

Though far from here-to pious nations

Who still revere him-by now he's journeyed.

Wo bist du? Trunken dammert die Seele mir

Von aller deiner Wonne; denn eben ist's,

Dass ich gelauscht, wie, goldner Tone

Voll der entzukende Sonnenjungling

Sein Abendlied af himmlischer Leyer speilt';

Es tonten rings die Walder und Hugel nach.

Doch fern ist er zu frommen Volkern,

Die ihn noch ehren, hinweggegangen. (pp 16).
