A Photographer's Review

As a photographer who epitomizes the idea of conquering an environmental setting or lighting circumstance to the best of my ability, learning about the disciplinary ideas expressed in Ogilvie's work on his website interested me in learning more.
The book's front cover fits the title as, to quote Lao Tzu, "Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is power". Suffice it to say that this book is empowering me to be a better artist, better friend, better husband, and better businessperson. I am broadening my scope in how the tenets of conquering oneself can suit multiple areas of being a living soul.
My advice is to don't procrastinate -- order this book and change your habits! :-)

I thought there was something wrong with me...

until I read this book. The ideas and concepts that I read have been dancing delightfully around in my gray matter for the past few days. The description of those with ADD seemed an accurate description of my personality and I've spent many years feeling like a square peg squeezing into a round hole.
Then I learned about the "subtle conspiracy against self-discipline" and that who I am should not be measured by what I do or don't get done in the course of a day. You have no idea of how my soul was soothed when I learned that my struggles are not in vain, I just have to "tweak" them a little.
The statement from the book that hit home the most was that "every time you allow yourself to be interrupted by a trivial concern; you actually pay for that interruption with a piece of your future".
Now I cut myself a little slack and practice being focused and single-minded. I'm also learning how to arrange my life in order to eliminate unnecessary distractions. Little-by-little, one step at a time.
I love this book! The insights and understanding that I've gained have given me the tools I need to take back my future. I'm truly inspired!

Great source of information on how to train your mental self in order to get the results you want to see. It was a great read, had to read it twice. Now the application begins.
